Partner | Family Law Litigator
Sharie Reyes Albers is a Partner at Virginia Family Law Center and an experienced Northern Virginia family law litigator known for her strategic approach to contested divorce, child custody, support, and complex family law disputes.
Ms. Albers practices exclusively in family law and represents clients in divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, emergency family law matters, and related litigation.
For Ms. Albers, successful litigation begins long before a client enters the courtroom.
She approaches each contested case strategically by identifying the issues that will matter most, developing the evidence necessary to prove them, anticipating the opposing party’s arguments, and determining when to negotiate, when to apply pressure, and when an issue needs to be presented to a judge.
Her goal is not simply to react to what happens during litigation. It is to shape the case from the beginning.
Ms. Albers has extensive experience representing clients in contested family law proceedings, including high-conflict custody disputes, emergency custody and support matters, initial support determinations and modifications, pendente lite hearings, and equitable distribution cases involving real estate, retirement accounts, businesses, financial accounts, insurance policies, marital debt, and other significant assets.
She is equally focused on knowing when not to fight. Effective litigation requires understanding which issues are worth pursuing, which battles are distractions, and when a negotiated resolution can produce a better result for the client than prolonged litigation.
But when a case must be litigated, Ms. Albers prepares with the expectation that the evidence, arguments, and strategy may ultimately need to withstand scrutiny in court.
Ms. Albers has also developed an influential following for her commentary on family law litigation and courtroom strategy.
Through social media and legal education, she breaks down the strategic decisions that can shape divorce and custody cases—from preparing evidence and evaluating witnesses to understanding courtroom dynamics, negotiation leverage, and the mistakes litigants frequently make during contested proceedings.
Her following reflects the same philosophy she brings to her clients: family law litigation is not simply about knowing the law. It is about understanding how to use the law, the facts, the evidence, and the procedural process together to build the strongest possible position.
Family law disputes often involve far more than winning a particular motion or hearing. Decisions made during a divorce or custody case can affect a client’s finances, children, property, and family relationships for years.
Ms. Albers works with clients to understand both the immediate legal issue and the larger objective behind it. She provides candid advice about risks and realistic outcomes while developing a strategy designed around what the client is ultimately trying to accomplish.
Clients facing serious family law disputes need more than someone who can explain the law. They need an advocate who can anticipate what comes next, prepare for it, and execute a strategy when the stakes are high.
Ms. Albers earned her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 2012 and has devoted her legal career to family law.
Her work has been recognized by the legal community, including recognition from Northern Virginia Magazine and Best Lawyers.
Outside of the office, Ms. Albers enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters and staying active with her family and dogs.
I cannot express enough gratitude for the outstanding service I received from Virginia Family Law. From the moment I reached out to them last year regarding my legal matter, I felt supported, informed, and confident in their ability to handle my case with professionalism and care.
