Virginia Law Firm Handling Your Family Legal Concerns

Married couples who experience numerous problems and fights often find themselves facing the option of divorce. Unfortunately, for most people, the situation does not get immediately easier when legal counsel is obtained. At Virginia Family Law Center, we understand you are going through a traumatic time, and our goal is to help you efficiently resolve your legal concerns so you can move on with your life.

We have over 30 years of experience representing clients in family law matters throughout Virginia. Contact our firm online or call 703-865-5839 to schedule your telephone consultation with an experienced lawyer. We represent clients in all family law matters, including:

Divorce

We help clients resolve their divorce concerns, addressing issues such as finances, property settlements agreements, spousal support, child support, custody, and visitation. When it is possible, we encourage our clients to resolve their divorce matters outside of court; however, when that is not feasible, we aggressively represent our clients in court.

Child Custody and Visitation

Many clients who contact our firm are confused by the courtā€™s child custody or visitation arrangement decisions. Factors such as cheating or lying do not necessarily make a person a bad parent; the courtā€™s decision is always based on the best interests of the child. We help clients negotiate with the opposing party to resolve child custody and visitation disputes.

Child Support

Child support guidelines often take people by surprise, either with the amount they are responsible for paying or the amount they will be receiving. In Virginia, child support is based on the combined gross income of both parents and is determined by a state-generated formula. We work closely with clients, helping them understand their child support responsibilities.

Property Settlement Agreements

Property settlement agreements are contracts that stipulate the division of all your marital property. We work with our clients and the opposing side to negotiate fair agreements and resolve matters related to custody, visitation, and the division of marital debts and property and address any other issues related to your marriage.

Premarital Agreements

Virginia law has long upheld the validity of premarital agreements (also known as prenuptial agreements), which can be a valuable tool to protect property acquired prior to marriage. Premarital agreements also frequently address other issues arising in divorce, including spousal support, with the goal of reducing the scope of any future litigation. Whether our clients ask us to prepare a premarital agreement, or review an agreement prepared by their spouse, we help them make an informed decision prior to signing.

Protective Orders in Family Abuse

A protective order is a legal document issued by a court to protect the health and safety of anyone alleged to be a victim of any act of violence, force or threat that results in bodily injury, or fear of death, assault or injury. On the other hand, if you believe you are the target of an unfair protective order, or conditions of the order are unjust, you can choose to fight the order in court. Virginia Family Law Center represents both petitioners and respondents of protective orders.
